If you are unsure whether your pet has died, contact a veterinarian or emergency animal hospital immediately, describe what you can observe and follow their directions. A webpage, a photograph or lack of movement cannot establish death. Discuss aftercare once death is confirmed.

Tell the veterinary clinic the time of death or discovery, approximate size, known illness and whether you want the cause investigated. Ask for storage, packaging and transport instructions, particularly overnight, in hot weather or during a delay. Cooling does not establish a universally safe waiting period.

Separate aftercare from remembrance

First decide whether you want cremated remains returned, then ask how the service works. Returning remains does not itself prove private cremation. Attending a farewell, choosing a decorative urn and ordering jewelry are separate choices that can be priced independently.
- 想取回骨灰：要求书面写明同一火化室是否有其他宠物、如何分隔及如何识别。If you want remains returned, request a written explanation of shared chambers, separation and identification.
- 考虑安葬：先查当地动物防疫和土地规则；不要因为是自家院子就自行决定。For burial, check local animal-health and land rules before using your own yard.
- 还没想好：询问暂存能持续多久、如何收费，以及最晚何时需要授权。If undecided, ask about storage limits, charges and the deadline for authorization.
